I sat in church with my head bowed and eyes lowered. I’ve failed God so, I thought. He must be very disappointed. Then my pastor said, “Look into Jesus’ eyes. See how He looks at you, how He sees you.” So I did. And in that moment, I wore the Samaritan woman’s shoes . . .
I imagine the Samaritan woman in John 4 looking into Jesus’ eyes and thinking, There’s something different about this man. She thought she knew about men and their thoughts. But He was different. “Go and get your husband,” Jesus said. She hesitated, eyes lowered. “I don’t have a husband.” He nodded. “You’re right! . . . You have had five husbands, and you aren’t even married to the man you’re living with now” (John 4:16-18).
Her body tensed. “Sir,” the woman said, “you must be a prophet. So tell me, why is it that you Jews insist that Jerusalem is the only place of worship?” (John 4:19-20). Her eyes flashed up to meet His, ready to tackle the awaiting judgment. Instead, the look on His face left her breathless. He said, “True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and in truth. The Father is looking for those who will worship him that way” (John 4:23).
She heard, The Father is seeking you.
The woman’s subsequent joyous words still ring true: “He told me everything I ever did!” (John 4:39). God knows our past, and still He offers us a future. Chris Tomlin, in his song Jesus Loves Me, describes how Jesus loves us and is for us. We may wonder how this can be—but it’s true by His grace.
Jesus died on the cross so that we might receive real life from Him. Freely given, His love can’t be earned—only accepted in gratitude. Come meet the One who knows everything you’ve done, but still calls to you in love.

How might the words or actions of others shape the way you view yourself? Do you believe that the way God views you trumps all other views—including your own? Why is this so important?

I am turning 65 yrs old on May 13th of this year, and for most of my life I have fought against the “goads” as Jesus said to Paul. I never cease to be amazed, at how God loved me all through my turning my back on Him. He sent His Son, my Lord and Savior to die for me, a wretched sinner, while I was still wallowing in the muck and mire of this world. I am so blessed to have had the love of God all through my life, He spared me numerous times from what should have been life ending situations.
Thank You dear Lord Jesus for never turning your back on me, for your supreme sacrifice.

Thank you very much for sharing this, Gary! God’s love really is amazing, and I’m constantly awestruck whenever I realize the truth of the Psalmist’s statement that ‘He does not treat us as our sins deserve.’ Be blessed, and Happy Birthday in advance! 🙂

A warm welcome to you Remi and a warm start with a warm subject. I hope God’s love will continually amaze us. I think we have only a peek of what lays before us. Yes, His views, His plans, trump all and we need to be continually looking into His face. How can it be? Thank you Remi

Thank you, Gary – I’m thrilled to be here! 🙂 I totally agree and pray that we continually dig deeper in to uncover all that He has for us as we experience Him more every day.

Welcome to ODJ, Remi! Before I even logged on this morning, I was meditating on Luke 22:61. I believe it is the only one of the gospels that gives the added information of Jesus looking into Peter’s eyes immediately after his denial of Jesus. Now here you are opening up your article with, “Look into Jesus’ eyes”. God is definitely speaking to me here. Our eyes communicate a lot, don’t they? I’m so grateful for Luke adding that detail because I know that what Peter saw in Jesus’ eyes is the same thing I see when He looks at me… no condemnation– only grace, love, and mercy. Thanks, Remi, for sealing this word for me this morning. Blessings to you!

Thank you, gagirl – what a beautiful illustration!!! How awesome is our God, that He can channel and mold messages that speak to each one of us in our own unique moment?? I pray that we never cease looking into His beautiful, loving eyes.

Thank you, Remi, for this timely reminder that in spite of who we are, it is who God is that makes all the difference!

Amen, thank you BearPair! I’m so grateful that His is the final word on who and what we are 🙂

Thank you Remi for this timely devotional. It’s so refreshing to know that God loves me in spite of myself. He knew and still knows everything about me, and still gave Himself to die for me so I could have eternal life in Him. He forgave me, then erased my sins and my guilt and shame and is preparing a place for me in Heaven. What more could I ever imagine or hope for?
Also Remi, I like listening to Chris Tomlin, he is one of my favorites, we sing some of his songs in church.

Thank you, Sandy – isn’t it so liberating to know that He knows everything about us, yet loves us anyway?? Sometimes, we don’t even like who we are! I think Chris Tomlin is someone who is definitely living out his God intended purpose through music; another song that brings me to my knees within this topic is ‘I Stand Amazed In The Presence.’

I haven’t heard that one before, I will have to look it up. I thought I had heard all of Chris Tomlin. Thank you so much for sharing!!

Actually I have heard this song before, I just didn’t realize that was the name of it. It’s beautiful and I really love that song. Thank you so much for pointing me to it. GBU
