One thing I’ve strived to do is focus on the person—truly striving to maintain a loving relationship with him or her. God’s grace is great enough to reach even the hardest of hearts.
Like Tom said. I am currently focused on my oldest daughter who hates me. Staying calm, relaxed and to listen to her and not focus on what my opinion and choices are. If this goes well, I can win her back with the help of God. This could take some time but I believe I will get through it and have a new relationship with my daughter.
Who am I to talk. As defiant as I was when I was younger, I never really listened to others and especially my parents.
Yet I did see and learned that those that really cared for me listened and where very patient with me. I hope that I will be more like that to others when they need someone to listen.
How have you reached out to a prodigal whom you love? What has helped you point them back to Jesus?
I deal with a person whom insists you believe what she believes to be true. You can talk until you are blue in the face and still she resists any guidance. So I realize the test isn’t just hers, it’s mine too. The double edge sword comes into perfect play with this situation. I can’t “tell” her so I have to “show” her. I pray for her…silently so as not to drive her to strife”…and within the prayer, I choose to wait and listen for God to speak. A trap I have fallen into is that I try to do what I “think” God wants from me, instead of praying and “knowing” what God wants. When I know what it is that I am to do I follow it. What better way to learn how to follow God. When I am to speak, it is from God as well. I sometimes get through to her. Her mother, my very good friend too, died last night, so this is the biggest challenge for me to help her see the truth, the way and the light. If it helps her to find Him then it is a win, win situation. It feels right now that it is the time Satan tempted Jesus and Jesus stayed righteous to the Father. I have the gift to understand death, so I pray that I am able to use it in this time of need.
Be blessed everyone!
mizroby, I’m so sorry for the loss of your good friend. May God give you the words to comfort her daughter and to point her to Jesus. Thanks for your example of praying for staying connected with this young woman.
