The news often drives me to prayer. That’s a good thing! The stories of wanton violence against innocents breaks my heart, but I strive to pray for all involved. Also, when I see people embracing and promoting social change and philosophies that defy God’s truth and wisdom, it—again—brings me to my knees.
I can find the news saddening and a reason for hope. We all can get discouraged when we hear stories of people suffering in this world or losing hope for one reason or another. At the same time it’s a great call to action for Believers in Christ to see how we can help. Also, it should remind us that this is not our home, God is always in control, and He is coming soon. We should remember that we don’t have to curse the darkness, but God has given us the ability to light a candle in one way (prayer!!) or another.
Most news is very disheartening to me. It’s point of view and underlying message is a worldly human culture view, not God’s. What is sad is how God’s people are constantly bombarded with these negative hateful messages.
I choose not to listen to it. I have found much peace recently by removing ‘news’ from my life. What really matters is what is happening locally, especially amoung my family and friends. That’s the only news I want to hear.
I get what you’re saying, zero_g. Much of the news is negative and often it is written from a particular worldview that doesn’t always jibe with a biblical one. A good thing about being in tune with what’s happening in the world is that we can pray for those who are facing difficulties and perhaps have our hearts moved to assist them in other ways. Also, it allows us to enter into discussions with people we meet who bring up news items. These can be great opportunities to bridge the discussion to God and the truly Good News!
