A discussion question on a major news site asks, “Does God have a role in the world today?” Most people seem to be responding with similar answers: 1) There is no God; 2) Religion is for the delusional and power-hungry. What would you strive to winsomely communicate to people who possess these beliefs?

I always say to anyone who doubts the existence of a supernatural being that it’s easier to believe there is a God than to believe there is none. There had to be a beginning of time at some point; we didn’t just drop from out of the blue. I believe God has a role in the world today, in fact everything happening today is purely due to His Divine or permissive will… part of His Perfect plan. Someday, God is going to say “Enough!”, the dead in Christ shall arise and the final battle shall be fought.
For me, I don’t believe in “Religion” per say, I believe in “Relationship” with the One True God. And finally, I would say to them that believe there is No God, what if there is a God, where does that leave you?

When I encounter disillusioned answers from people clinging to their non-beliefs, I generally consider my relationship to them before responding. If family or friends are the non-believers, I think shared experiences will frequently open up opportunities to witness to the reality of God. Posing thought-provoking questions also elicits a deeper response from them, further enhancing the prospect of connecting.
Discussing spiritual topics with strangers commands a greater diligence of our own spirituality, which should be clothed by a consistent daily walk with our Lord Jesus, held together with the threads of prayer, adoration, confession, and thanksgiving. If we are well-grounded in our faith, we will be prepared spiritually to give an honest and Godly witness to others.

It is interesting to me that people of this world expect to be treated, according to the ten commandments, or at least, don’t kill me, don’t steal from me, don’t lie to me.
I would ask them “why cling to these principles and say their isn’t a God, when these principles came from the Almighty God through His Holy Word?”
Hopefully this would be an opportunity to show the evidence of what Gods’ word says.
