Proverbs 3:5-6 has always meant a great deal to me. It reveals the importance of real faith—faith that truly trusts God in the storms of life. It always tells us that our understanding is limited and that it’s vital that we acknowledge God and His perfect, mysterious, sovereign ways.
Psalm 103 This Psalm keeps me centered on the tremendous blessings and forgiveness that God has bestowed on me and His eternal love for me, even though I am as a “flower the flourishes but when the wind blows it is no more,” God is everlasting.
I love this psalm too, sbarclay. “The Lord is compassionate and merciful, slow to get angry and filled with unfailing love” (Psalm 103:8). What a great God we serve!
When I first became a Christian, I heard and saw Psalms 3:5 (not even 6 at that point) so often that I thought I was supposed to cross stitch it and hang it up!!! Little did I know that my Lord was telling me, “This will be your largest and sharpest sword. You will have a whole closet full in time but this is the one you will rely on the most.” I’ve used it for situations large and small and everything in between. It is as sharp and reliable as it was at the start of my journey.
My life verse is Joshua 1:9 and why? When I was in re-hab for alcohol addiction I had to do a Bible Study and I did one on courage. Joshua 1:9 was my focus. Later I was applying to go to seminary while still in re-hab and many told me I would never make it, but this verse kept coming to my heart and I knew that I had “To be strong and courageous, because my Lors and God was with me wherever I go.” I have completed seminary and now serve my King overseas.
joyce, I’m reminded of how Jesus lived out this verse so perfectly—seeking justice for all, showing mercy to all, and humbly washing the disciples’ feet. What an amazing Lord!
