Before starting my devotionals, I humbly ask the Holy Spirit to fill my heart with thanksgiving, to give me wisdom and understanding and attentive ears for His teachings. The Holy Spirit is ever near us, when I feel down and troubled, I call on Him and He answers. When I’m done pouring out everything to Him, I felt good and relieved. I thank God for the Holy Spirit.
Good practices, ebeb! I do something similar before I dig into God’s Word during my devotions, saying this prayer poem modeled after Psalm 119:18: “God, open my eyes that I might see the wonderful things you have for me.”
As with most of us, there are days were I have troublesome thoughts and feelings that I know are not in line with my Christian beliefs. I do devotions twice a day, once in the morning and once in the afternoon. I find that turning to the Lord at these times in my day help to get me “back on track” so to speak. It reminds me that while I am a sinner and a flawed human being, I must strive to become a better person in the eyes of the Lord. My devotions give me the strength to continue to try to change things I know are flaws in my character. I always come away with both an improved attitude and inner happiness, It is very uplifting. God Bless Jessie
Jessie1, I love your all-day approach to “throwing off” our sinful thoughts and actions and “putting on” the righteousness found in Jesus, as Paul described in Ephesians 4:21-24.
