I just returned from Colorado, where I was able to hike in the Rockies. I walked through an amazing Aspen grove. I stood still, watched the wind flicker the young green leaves and took in the cascading light. God was there.
Just a look at the vastness of the universe in which at our planet lies is enough to make me wonder,
What was it in me, this little creature in this little planet, that He would love me so much? Nothing but His grace.
I live in the desert. Some may think it is not beautiful. But everyday I observe the beauty of God’s work in the little animals and in the birds. I look at the mean cacti and see the delicate cactus flower. It amazes me that God could create such beauty in what appears at first glance to be drab and ugly. I praise Him daily for what He has given me to observe. And to look at all this and think it could have just happened is obsurd.
There are not many days we can experience sunny weather in Scotland. After a tiring day of work last week, I was greeted with a beautiful picturesque scene right in front of my eyes as I was driving home. It rained earlier in the day, but the sky turned sunny after. The sky was just filled with beautifully shaped clouds that was so clear white with a bright blue sky. And to compliment them were a row of tall (different heights) green trees lined up in a row. What a beauty to enjoy. He had replaced my tiredness to gladness. What a wonderful God we have. I can only praise and thank God for the beauty of His creation around us.
I believe, wherever we are, when we learn to open our senses to the things around us, we will see God’s wonderful creation.
Due to my need for a stem cell transplant, I’ve been inside my 8th floor hosptial room for the past two weeks. As i look outside, I can see the beautiful sunshine reflecting off colorful structures in downtown Detroit. This reminds me of one of my favorite C. S. Lewis quotes: “I believe in Christianity as I believe in the sun—not because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” Brilliant!
Tom, thank you for your post in this difficult moment of your health. It has been very encouraging and inspiring. Praise and give thanks to God for your great faith in Him. Keeping your treatment and family in prayer. God bless.
