“[The way we live] blends in way too well with the rest of the world (i.e. people are not seeing a difference between those who say they are Christians and those who are not).” What do you think of these helpful thoughts from ODJ community member mstigall? How can believers in Jesus live out true salt and light lives?

Not adjusting ourselves to the world but having
the world longing to live the way we live. Talking about Jesus’s Love with our hearts and behavior. As hard as it may sound, GOD promissed that our plans are to succeed when we commit them to Him.

fabi, thanks for your thoughts. When you wrote “God promised that our plans are to succeed when we commit them to Him,” it drew me to John 15. Here, Jesus states, “You may ask for anything you want, and it will be granted!” (John 15:7). But it’s important to note the first part of that verse, “If you remain in me and my words remain in you . . .” How important it is to remain obedient (John 14:21) to God and yielding to His will and Word as we plan and pray!

A city on a hill cannot be hidden. What is flesh can only see spiritual if God permits those fleshly eyes to open and reveal it unto him. When my Dad and I talk, we often say to each other something to the effect of, “My spirit recognized their spirit.”

I continue to try and demonstrate my Christian faith through my preaching and living. However because of my illness it becomes more difficult for me to get about.

I’m often asked why I don’t “worry” about important things. “Where will you live, how much will you get paid, when will the house sell, will the bills get paid today, if not when…I usually refer to my so called lack of worry as I am at peace, because the Lord provides me peace. I know my human limits, and I do what I can at every given moment with the abilities and talents He has provided, and I do worry about things, which is evident in my muscles in my neck being so extemely tense, but I know to get on my knees and just lay it on the table(he already knows anyway), pray to Him who has the ability to do something about it. My peace returns.

Myself , I try to demonstrate my love and obedience for God by the way I behave and talk , so that others may also see my love for him , when I have ” nothing ” I still have everything ! I will never be alone .

For me it starts with prayer and study of the Word. We are called out of this world and i know it is easy to fall into a routine that looks and is a lot like the world, please pray that we remember 2 start each day with deliberate eager hearts to do what God has planned for us to do, that we would walk according to the calling we have recvd because He will give us grace to do His will in His power. We are forgetful hearers…..

Living as salt and light for me means becoming or making my Christianity “relevant” to the world around me.
As I have thought about being relevant this past week I am reminded of the stories in the new testament where people demonstrated their relevance. for example:
– The friends lowering their paralyzed friend through the roof to get him in front of Jesus.
– The Good Samaritan.
– Jesus meeting the woman at the well.
I believe these give us snapshots of how to be slat and light in a world that desperately needs to see “Relevant Christian lives”

Good thoughts, mstigall, and everyone else. It’s evident that being salt and light includes both the proclamation of God’s truth—Jesus and the Samaritan woman—and loving actions—the healing of the man lowered through the roof. I’m so grateful for Jesus’ example!
