Jesus said, “Come to me, all of you who are weary and carry heavy burdens, and I will give you rest.” What’s the “rest” Jesus is referring to? How have you entered into it?

I believe this means taking the emotional burdens more so than physical ones. I recently returned to a closer relationship with God after some illness with physical pain and difficulties. I know I couldn’t have survived my ordeal without the Lord “shouldering” some of the load that had been put upon me.

Thanks Tom. I should perhaps have been a little more succinct when I wrote this. I had my left leg amputated below the knee. I knew that it would take a lot of physical effort on my part to deal with my new challenge. I surrendered my emotional distress to the Lord and it helped more than I ever managed. As a side note, at the rehab center I was offered counseling to deal with the emotional part of an amputation, but felt that God had it well in hand. Not that I don’t believe in counseling, but felt I was okay.

jessie1, I’m so sorry you had to face this physical and emotional challenge. But I’m grateful for the radiant faith I find in your words. As a four-time cancer survivor, I recognize the spiritual growth that can occur as God allows us to face sickness and other medical difficulties. May God continue to help you heal and use this challenge to bring spiritual growth to you and glory to Himself. Praying for you, friend. Philippians 1:19.
