C.S. Lewis wrote, “I believe in Christianity as I believe in the sun—not because I see it, but because by it I see everything else.” How is this statement true for you?

Yes, this is definitely a TRUE statement for me

“To see is to believe”, this is a common saying. But I think, this doesn’t apply with regards to Christianity. Christianity works through faith, and faith is believing even without seeing first. Now, because you believe, by faith, you now see. You see your purpose of living, the reason to live.

It is amazing to me the more I read GOD’S word the things that He speaks of in His word are revieled to me in my life which of course increases my faith every day making the statement very true “To see is to believe” in the one who knows all things.

Yes, I agree with you lindellj. Indeed, God’s Word is like a light that shines brightly in our hearts. The more you read, the more He reveals His perfect will for you.

My experience with God is that he gives me a direction/a thought/a nudge and it is not confirmed that it is from God until I trust, reach out and follow through. Then and only then, is it confirmed. Each time this happens, it builds my confidence in my ability to hear God and in God. I have had some amazing experiences that I would never been a part of without faith..first.

C.S. Lewis is a great writer. I think his statement is awesome. When I look at things of the world through verses of the Bible it is a whole other way of “seeing” life. God said that the Holy Spirit would be given to us to help us learn and see the Word mroe clearly. I think that the statement is an honest one.

We have to be CERTAIN OF WHAT WE CANNOT SEE! That’s faith!!!

Yes, as everyone commented…”Walk by Faith not by Sight.” This to me is only part of C.S. Lewis’ message. When he says “BY IT I SEE EVERYTHING ELSE”, he adds a whole new dimension to the statement. I believe Lewis is referring to the intense relationship with CHRIST we must encounter to truly believe. To me believing is not simply stating it, but truly living it! The Sun allows us to sustain life on Earth…without it there would be no growth of all living things. We have been placed on this planet to have dominion over all living things. That was the plan from the beginning in the Garden of Eden. The FATHER will express HIS HOLY SPIRIT through HIS creation not ours. When Lewis says, ‘By it I see everything”. He is attempting to get us to use our innate senses to get closer to Mother Nature. We have a tendency to look upon bright fluorescent lights of a city rather than gazing upon the stars. remember to be still and know that GOD exists. Try spending sometime at a local park looking at the birds of the air. Pray earnestly to get to know HIM more intensely. May the Peace of Christ be with everyone!
