Loving God with all my heart, all my soul, all my mind and all my strength. I am starting with practical ways to do this. Does any one have suggestions about how to do this?
Until a few months ago,I had struggled with not loving God as much as I needed to…Actually…I don’t think I loved God…but I knew I truly wanted to….My turning point is when I realized the greatness of God…that He is ever-present….He is everywhere….His love is beyond measure…..He is our creater….and He loves us…He created us to love Him….He poured into my heart the deep deep love He has for me…and that same love He has for you. God just wants us to love Him….That’s all….and how wonderful it is when we do…..Find out who God is by what the bible says about Him….There are websites that list the characters of God….Write them down and then place them in your heart….Right now and always….God is ever-present…He is always present….He is right there beside you ALL the time….He never leaves us…..He just wants your love and to have a relationship with you so you can have the joy of His love inside you……I will pray that the love He has for you will be made known to you…and then that love for Him will be instant.
purestrength…I don’t know if this will be helpful but, in addition to a time of daily Bible study and prayer time, I try to begin my day with Him with a quick prayer even before I get out of bed…”goodmorning Lord”, talk to Him throughout the day…”thank you for that parking spot,” “sorry Lord for my outburst at that driver,” etc. and finish the day as I close my eyes, “thank you for being with me today”.
Jesus gave a great example to us of true love and forgiveness. When he was being put to death instead of calling upon His Father to end the torment and squash his captors he looked to the heavens and said:
“forgive them Father for they know not what they do” [Luke23:34]
If we could emulate that kind of spiritual discipline in our own lives just think of the glory we would be giving to our Lord and Savior? I know how easy it is to love those who love us but to love and forgive those who torment or even hate us is so difficult!
But if Jesus could do this we can at least try to model our lives after His example.
That is something I will work on in my Christian walk this year and in the years to come.
I grew up in a very critical and discouraging home. I made a supreme effort to do the opposite with my children. But I’ve recently become aware of how negative my thoughts and reactions remain to all circumstances in my life. My goal is to have a more joyful and positive attitude…that people I am around would go away feeling lighter and happier for their time with me…and know it is because of my relationship with Jesus.
Thank you all for your suggestions about how to love God with everything I am. God continues to work on my heart as He reveals HImself to me – through daily devotions, singing, prayer, and reading His Word.
Please pray that I will not become overwhelmed – as I often do- by negative and critical statements from family. “God is love.” 1 John 4:8 and “Love is kind, love is patient…” 1 Corinthians 13:4-7
I am still trying to wrap my brain around the fact that God loves me and cares about me.
Perhaps meditation on God’s words about this is where I need to start.
I seek to improve my relationship with God through daily devotions and prayer. I will add Gal 5 (Thanks Esther Chang) to that effort to be a better witness. My behaviors need to line up (more) with my faith.
I plan to incorporate a prayer time with my husband in addition to my daily morning prayer time. He is a believer but this past year has been so hectic and we’ve had so many rollar coaster rides in our life this year. I do pray thruout the day to the Lord and talk in my car to him. He has given me strength to carry on day by day. May the New Year Bless each and everyone in this group! God Bless
Someone once said that when you don’t want to pray….is when you should pray the most…..So I try to remember that when I don’t feel like going to my prayer closet….and after I do….I am so blessed.

Hi purestrength,
You might want to consider working on one of the aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit (Gal 5) as spiritual discipline.
– Love
– Joy
– Peace
– Patience
– Kindness
– Goodness
– Faithfulness
– Gentleness
– Self-control
Hope this would spark off more ideas on the practical ways to start your spiritual discipline.

I plan to work on submitting more of my life to God. There is so much I can work on, and I have made many excuses.
