What words of comfort would you share with someone going through a difficult time?
First I would listen to the person having a difficult time. I would also be praying and in my own way send up to Jesus the words the person is speaking and then ask for guidance. Each situation is different and would be different words or actions.
I could also quote different passages from the Bible and hope that they reach the person, but there are those who have no idea of what the Bible is meant to say to them. I would still quote the Bible but maybe also add a story within my life to match there’s as far as the “root cause” of the difficulty.
I’d tell them:
they are not alone.
I’d tell them that they will grow from this and it is not a mistake as Jesus doesn’t make mistakes.
I sometimes read the Beatitudes but use the person’s name with in it, so as to let them know that they are being looked after at all times.
I will be there for them at any time they need me if possible.
I love them.
With each situation different the main point would be to bring peace and serenity to them through the Word. It is very hard to take the focus off of yourself if you are hurting, but if I can I ask them to come and go with me to help others.
Great ideas, mizroby! I love how you started with “listening.” It’s so easy to barge in and proclaim what the hurting person should do. But even if our words contain truth, it’s so much more important to hear the other person’s heart and to allow them to grieve, lament, etc.
Gold is purified only after it passes repeatedly through the fire. Diamonds are created only under extreme pressure, and you are formed and strengthened only through trials and difficulties… Whatever difficulty you’re encountering is God’s way of refining your character. That’s why we are suppose to count it all joy when we encounter various trials. God is in full control of every given circumstances, so we got nothing to worry about.

I am doing a month long series of devotions in September of hope and comfort called “Where Do Tears Go” based on Psalm 56:8.

God is the greatest Comforter, I would not want to go through any of life’s trials without Him.

I am here for you. I cannot take away the situation, but there is hope in Christ… His love is greater than life. Let’s pray.
