What are some specific ways you (and perhaps your local church) are helping the poor and needy in your community—showing them God’s love?

Our church has put together a group called the “Andrews Council” We pick someone in the community every month that is in need of something and do it for them. Disabled elderly that can’t work in their yard, we go and clean up their yards and just tell them we did it because “Jesus loves them” We gave a baby shower in a young single recovering addict trying to get on her feet. It brought her to tears. We are just trying to show God’s love to the community without putting pressure on people to attend our church. Just because God loves them.

What a great idea, snowman57ftd. It’s clear to me that your church is active within the community, for that’s how you learned of the individual needs. Great witness for Jesus!

I love your daily devotions. I do a Bible study for young christian women. Most of them are recovering addicts who have never went to church and are just starting out. I try to give them a Bible and an old copy of one of my “Our Daily Bread” It is easy for them to read and understand and keeps them in the Bible everyday. I great choice for young christians as well as old. We all need to be grounded in God’s Word every day! Praise God! If anyone out there has some old “Our Daily Bread” I could sure use them to give out to these new christians.

I believe it is important for a church to reach out, not only in preaching the Word of God but in WORKS. And as God had said ‘WORDS WITH ACTION IS DEAD’.
I am very fortunate to belong to a church who reaches out to the community as well as outwith throughout the year. One event that we do in the community every year is ‘HOPE 2011’ the year changes accordingly. A number of our church members (all ages) will volunteer their time to provide car washing for anybody, painting and gardening help for the elderly, local schools and community centre.
Throughout the year, we do fundraising for outwith the community and overseas mission projects. We help out the city centre homeless project volunteering our time to serving food and be a listening ear to homeless people. We are reminded that it is important not only to serve but be fed with His Word daily to have His love, wisdom and discernment to do God’s works.
We are always encouraged to not only be a blessing in the church but more importantly the outside world. May God continues to direct and bless all the churches to shine His light into every corner of the world.

Our church is on a busy highway in the deep South. The highway is one of the busiest east/west roads in the US. We give food to walkers who are passing by on their journey through life. (250 lbs. a month) The Christian help and atmosphere we offer during their travels may make a difference sometime along the road in life.
