My Mum was a devout Christian but a great worrier and growing up, I resolved not to be like her but to have a positive attitude to life. In my teens, whilst attending a Church youth group, the leader told us that worrying about anything was one of the biggest insults we could pay God. He pointed us to the words in Philippians 4, where it says, “Don’t worry about anything: instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace, which exceeds anything we can understand. His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.” (verses 6-7 NLT)
Through all the difficult and anxious times in my life, it seems I am always drawn back to these verses and from them to draw comfort, courage, support strength and encouragement and the reassurance that I can completely depend on God for everything I need.
Thanks so much for sharing, gillian. My Mom has also struggled with worries throughout her life. But God has graciously helped deal with her concerns, finding hope and strength in Him. I, too, have struggled with worry at times in my life. Philippians 4:6-7 has proved to be a great encouragement to my soul. Also, Psalm 55:22 states, “Give your burdens to the Lord, and he will take care of you.” It’s so good to bring our anxious thoughts to God and allow Him to give us true perspective!
