The book “When Helping Hurts” reveals that the wrong kind of “help” can actually hurt those who are in poverty. What are some positive ways for believers in Jesus to minister to the poor?

One thing I recently learned on a missions trip is the importance of asking people what they truly need—not simply tossing money or goods at them. Doing so allows them the dignity of working through the need with you, stating what they can do to help the situation. Also, if we give material things without discernment it can devastate local businesses/iindividuals and actually do more harm than good.
