Proverbs 3:5,6
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding. Acknowledge Him in all your ways, and He will direct your paths.”
aletabugg, these verses mean a great deal to my wife and me. in fact, we selected them as our “marriage verses”—truth that we have been able to cling to often over the years. The key for us has been to learn to trust even when the way isn’t clear. And by acknowledging God’s sovereignty, surrendering to Him and His perfect will, we have found great peace and hope!
Wow Tom! How awesome is that! I grew up with these verses. My family (that raised me) has a “family prayer” where these words are quoted and as I have grown in Christ, The Lord brought me right back to them! This is my mantra, my mandate, my mission statement and my immediate family’s (husband and son) motto as well! Praise God!
It is not fair to ask which are my favorite proverbs, because there are so many that have had a large impact on my life. I have found that soaking myself in not only the book of Proverbs, but God’s whole Word, is a little like taking a daily regimen of vitamins. It keeps my mind healthy and my character strong. I like the way Proverbs starts by stating it’s importance on one’s life, like it had on Solomon son of David, king of Israel: “They teach wisdom and self-control; they will help you understand wise words. They will teach you how to be wise and self-controlled and will teach you to do what is honest and fair and right. (Prov. 1:1-7) The next one has helped not only me as God’s son, but I’ve also shared these with my own children, the richness of these and other wise words for us and our children is beyond measure. This is warnings against evil: “My child, listen to your father’s teaching and do not forget your mother’s advice. ….My child, if sinners try to lead you into sin do not follow them…..My child, do not go along with them; do not do what they do. They are eager to do evil and are quick to kill. (Prov. 1: 8-16) I can go on, but as I have said, the book of Proverbs has been a life saver, at times when I drowning, God lifted up my soul from sure death and He put upon the (saving) solid rock, His son Jesus Christ, my Lord and Saviour. Be blessed and know that He is God. Have a great day, go out and be a blessing in someone’s life.
i agree that the whole book is crucial in living a life pleasing to God, and just one favorite verse is not enough. but sometimes there are verses that touch you in such a way that it seems like it was written just for you, in the moment that you need it to dwell in your heart.
with that said, Proverbs 16:1-4 always freshly strike me each time i stumble upon it.
I will have to say that my favorite Proverbs verse is (Proverbs 1:7) The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge: but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
