One of the best things I’ve tried to do is to hold my wife close and pray out loud to God when we’ve been blessed and also when we’ve taken a serious hit . . . striving to praise God regardless of what He’s allowed to touch our lives (Job 1:21; Philippians 4:4).
Unfortunately I have not been a great source of encouragement for my spouse or my children in the past. I cannot seem to convince them that they need the Lord. Instead, without giving up hope, I do the best I can to live according to God’s Will. I meditate on His Word, I pray, and I sing along with my favorite Christian radio station in the open where my family can see that I am happy in the presence of God. I don’t give them a hard time when they tease me about “getting my Jesus on” when I leave for church. I don’t make them pray with me, yet I do ask them to remember me in their prayers or ask them if they would like me to pray for anything particular since I will be praying for them anyway. My daughter (17yrs) sometimes calls me and asks me if I would pray for her friends and I always remind her to pray for them as well. I don’t force religion or God down their throats. I do my very best to walk the walk. Matthew 5:16.
Thanks for sharing, agrady. Your perseverance in living for Jesus before your family is inspiring. Your past failures cannot eclipes the beauty of your life in Christ now. May you continue shine brightly in your home and in your world! (Philippians 2:13-15).
The act of listening. Genuinely listening to my close friends and comforting them like how Jesus counsel me in times of trouble. When they see His goodness in you, surely they can’t live without Him.
