Q: Please clarify the last sentence of the following verse: Revelation 19:10: “At this I fell at his feet to worship him. But he said to me, ‘Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the spirit of prophecy.’” —John
A: Grammatically, the last sentence of Revelation 19:10 can be interpreted two ways. It can be understood as declaring that only the genuine spirit of prophecy—empowered by the Holy Spirit—can testify to God’s redemptive purpose in Jesus Christ. Or it can be understood as saying that any true testimony about the person and ministry of Jesus Christ is rooted in the spirit of prophecy. Either interpretation would be true. —Dan VanderLugt

In Revelation 19:10, the word ‘spirit’ with lower case ‘s’ does not refer to the person of the Holy Spirit. It means: the essence (see NLT), the whole idea, the intent, the purpose, it is all about…
Prophecy means truth.
So, the purpose of prophecy revealed in the vision to John is to tell others about Jesus.
