Some say, “If you’re not gaining ground, you’re losing ground.” That’s not always the case. At times, forward progress is overrated!

Many strive to acquire, gain, step up, grow, move forward, and make progress. While these things are good and we should aspire for better, there may come a time in your life when you cannot move forward for whatever reason—doubt, indecision, weariness, caution, fear, or waiting on the Lord. Moving just to be moving can be hazardous, especially if you’re headed in the wrong direction. It is in times like these you should stand. Standing still does not necessarily mean that you’re doing nothing.

1. Stand still, re-group, and refocus on God.

Psalm 4:4 – Stand in awe, and sin not: commune with your own heart upon your bed, and be still. Selah.

2. Hear clearly what the Lord is saying.

1 Samuel 9:27 – But you stand still, first, that I may cause you to hear the word of God.

3. See what God is doing.

1 Samuel 12:16 – So stand still and see this great thing the Lord will do before your eyes now.
