Last night I attended a lecture, and the speaker mentioned that his dissertation advisor, one of the leading theologians of our day, told him that if he had to do it all over again, he would not have neglected the Scriptures.  That is a shocking admission.  How can you do theology without immersing yourself in Scripture?  Then it struck me that we all face this challenge today.  There are so many things that demand our attention–such as our cellphones, the Internet, and even this blog!–that if we’re not careful, we can become so distracted by good things that we forsake what is best.

A well-read person is not someone who reads everything, but is someone who says no to alot of books and blogs so that she can read what is best.  Let’s make sure that we make time for Scripture–this theologian’s regret is not one I want to have.
