Luke 1:46-55

Mary had an exceedingly great reason to praise the Lord, being the highly favored and chosen one to bring forth a Savior. Her song in Luke 1: 46-55, also called the Magnificat, resonates a spirit of awe and humility before her Lord and shows us a glimpse into this woman whose heart of worship declares many accolades of praise as she makes a list of God’s wondrous ways.

     Praise like this comes from a heart that has been in close relationship with God. Those who walk close to the Lord are those who continually and wholly seek Him and His ways, and know through life experiences that what Scripture proclaims is true about God—true because they’ve seen God work in their lives, and their life becomes a song of praise . . . praise continually forms on their lips.

     Praise like this comes from a heart fully surrendered and yielded to God, and from a life lived completely trusting Him. A life lived like that will experience up close and personal the magnificent works of our Almighty God.

Luke 1:46-55

46 And Mary said:
“ My soul magnifies the Lord,
47 And my spirit has rejoiced in God my Savior.
48 For He has regarded the lowly state of His maidservant;
For behold, henceforth all generations will call me blessed.
49 For He who is mighty has done great things for me,
And holy is His name.
50 And His mercy is on those who fear Him
From generation to generation.
51 He has shown strength with His arm;
He has scattered the proud in the imagination of their hearts.
52 He has put down the mighty from their thrones,
And exalted the lowly.
53 He has filled the hungry with good things,
And the rich He has sent away empty.
54 He has helped His servant Israel,
In remembrance of His mercy,
55 As He spoke to our fathers,
To Abraham and to his seed forever.”  —submitted by Kathy Cheek, US
