According to some physicists in the world today, our universe comes into being from nothing. Is this a scientific fact or is it simply a clever magic trick? They say the universe created itself out of nothing; and God does not exist, nor is he needed. So with this great discovery, atheism must be true. There is no supernatural being; God has disappeared.
Is this really the best explanation for our existence, or is it magic? What is magic all about? It is creating an illusion, to make something look like something it is not. For example, a magician pulls a rabbit out of a hat that has “nothing” in it. Then a rabbit arises (abracadabra) out of nothing. So does this same theory apply to our universe?
Believe it or not, this is almost exactly what these great scientists and atheists are doing! They have created an illusion that the entire cosmos (yes, the entire universe) came into existence out of nothing.
Well, we don’t need to be a physicist to know that being cannot come from non-being. We know that something never comes out of absolutely nothing. That is ridiculous.
So, I ask, which is the best explanation for the cause of the universe?
1. The universe sprang into existence uncaused from absolutely nothing.
2. God caused the universe to come into existence.
The answer is obvious. God created the universe! —Mark, US

I’m a believer, but take this as a weak argument to make. When most atheists are presented with this question, they respond with “Then where did god come from.”

jbowling13 is right, this is a weak argument to make considering many non-believers will spin it around asking “where did God come from?”. I have been asked this question many times and have felt stuck on how to respond. Any suggestions?

There are many scriptures that tell us about the understanding of God. When asked about creation next time encourage them to read Hebrew 11:3 and if they say, “well man wrote the Bible and not God,” point them to 2 Timothy 3:16-17. Everytime someone has a question about our faith and the reason we believe we have to keep pointing them to the word of God and praying that he will softening their hearts to his word. There will be some people who no matter what response you give it will simply not be enough.

jbowling 13 and JDMcleod:
You are right that atheists need not accept the argument and can easily turn it back on the believer in God. It seems as though we have an uncaused God and they have an uncaused creation. However, there might be a couple more things we can say.
1. It’s at least a draw, for if our argument can be turned back against ourselves, then so can theirs. That is, if they ask where God came from, we can say that it’s just as plausible to say that there is an eternal being than to say something came from nothing.
2. We don’t have to persuade people that God exists, for Romans 1:18-32 says that everyone already believes in him. And so while this argument may not be an iron clad proof for God’s existence, it might still be used by the Holy Spirit to awaken some to the difficulties in their profession that there is no God.

I have to agree with hauntedhoney the arguments are pointless i believe what we know as Christians should be enough for us

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God’s command, so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible. (Hebrew 11:3). It is not for us to try and understand everything for God’s thoughts are higher than our own and his understanding infinite. I think this is just another distraction of the enemy to try and off set Christians from the focus of our journey…living just as our saviour Jesus Christ lived during his time on earth. For he to had to deal with the distractions of the enemy. He dealt with it using the LIVING WORD of God through prayer and obedience.
