Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear. Is not life more than food, and the body more than clothes? Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them. Are you not much more valuable than they? Can any one of you by worrying add a single hour to your life? And why do you worry about clothes? See how the flowers of the field grow. They do not labor or spin. Yet I tell you that not even Solomon in all his splendor was dressed like one of these. If that is how God clothes the grass of the field, which is here today and tomorrow is thrown into the fire, will He not much more clothe you—you of little faith? So do not worry, saying, “What shall we eat?” or “What shall we drink?” or “What shall we wear?” For the pagans run after all these things, and your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first His kingdom and His righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well. Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Each day has enough trouble of its own (Matthew 6:25-34).
These are sorta my favorite verses and also the verses that have kept me going at many crossroads of my life—many junctures where I faced issues that seemed too big for me to face.
I know a lot of us are facing problems and troubles today. I personally can’t say that I know how you’re feeling, for I’m simply a young man who hasn’t experienced much yet in my life. In all that I’ve been through, however, there is a simple thing that I’ve used to conquer all the humps my journey: Trust.
As cliche as it may sound, I think trust and the verses that you just read have led me through many struggles in life. It’s because of trust that I can believe that God has His plans for me no matter what happens. Also, I know that God will not give me more than I can bear. I also know He’ll always be there when I’m going through the worst times. Every bump in the road is training ground for me to become stronger—so that the same bump won’t be as tough to go over in the future. On top of all of that, I know that God loves me no matter if I fail or pass the test! Failures defined by people are not failures defined by God.
I have a little personal experience to share. When I was in Junior College, I flunked my exams and I blamed God for a lot of things—almost everything you can think of. Then, somehow (I’m not sure what, but I know Who. Maybe a sermon or a Bible verse), I knew to trust in the Lord no matter what happens, and I decided to. From then on, I got more involved in His work and strived to seek Him above anything(it really works!) and things fell in place soon after.
However, that’s not the end of the story. When I look back, I realize that there are many things that if I hadn’t risked, I wouldn’t have been able to grow in my faith. Two of the more significant things are joining the cell group that I am in now and also taking part in Missions work (in Korat, Thailand). My experiences have led me to want to take part in more missions work, and I think it’s God’s calling (though not internationally), but we’ll see, we’ll see! 🙂
So yeah! Don’t worry for there is nothing God can’t do and nothing you can’t Trust God to do! Just like this picture, be like the flowers, not fretting about tomorrow, and continue looking at the Source who gives you strength!
(On a side note, the next day morning, when I went to look for these flowers, they were beginning to wither. However, when I was heading home from school, I saw that they were there once again facing the sun.) —pic and words submitted by Victor Kuah, Australia
