Over the past few years, many books and movies have pointed to the reality of an afterlife. Revelation 21:1describes “a new heaven and a new earth.” What are you looking forward to as you consider these future realities?

I’m looking forward to being surrounded by constant praise for our Lord, and an eternal life without our current daily struggles.

I believe it will be an eternal place of joy, peace and love as we are back with our creator Father (Revelation 21:3-4) There will be no evil thoughts and deeds in our mind, broken hearts and lifeless soul. There will be no more sufferings both physically and spiritually. There will be no more worries, like having a job to pay for our house mortgages, the problems faced as a teenager, adult, growing old, retirement, health, children etc; that we are being faced with everyday here in this present world.
Jesus had said that our heavenly Father has prepared a place for us to live in and all that we need. Just can’t wait for that day to come.
In the meanwhile, what is important is to keep praying for the salvation our loved ones and others who are still not a believer to know Jesus. Because, Jesus is the ONLY way back to God.

Well it also says to treat this earth as we would for the new earth and heaven. I just can not imagine a human without some kind of conflict to have to deal with. We will get new bodies but it doesn’t say that we will have something that looks like we are now because we are going to be changed to look like Him. God equals the words of the Bible, you can’t see that unless you are holding the Bible. Jesus will come and has been described as how he will look. It is not your normal body in which we have now. The Holy Spirit, well that is the same as Word/God, you can’t see that either.
I don’t know if we will look anything like human and if we do, how do we be that and have no problems with anything? Do we get to be with family or are all of us going to be just a spirit floating around without a care in the world. Will we remember this life? Do we want to remember this life? I don’t want to be just a spirit without a body, but I do not know of what we will become, but just know that it is there and is said to take all our problems away. Will we have the ability to touch, or to hold, or to smile? It all depends on what we become. If only our souls are taken and not this earth body, I think that for eternity we will be just floating around in the big mansion with nothing else to do but praise Jesus 24/7. I try to not think all of this thru because I wont know until I get there so why worry about it. I just know I am following Him to where I will go.

mzroby, good questions! Check out this post from Dan Vander Lugt on our “Answers To Tough Questions” blog. It has some helpful insights:

I think it will be neat to live in the world as God created it! Living in His presence with everything “GOOD” as He created it!

It adds a wonderful hope to me while living here on earth and since i’m still here, i’m looking forward to be a better Christian each day, aiming to be “blameless and pure” when i stand in front of my holy God. That topic should make you think seriously that we should live as Citizens of Heaven not of this temporary world and think how our Father will tell us when we meet Him. You wouldn’t want to doubt how your boss or teacher will tell about a job you made. What more to our Father in Heaven? So we should live seriously as His children so we get peace of mind and spirit on thinking about the “new heaven and new earth” 🙂

I love mzroby’s questions. The Bible does say we get a new body, but I’ve often thought about how we will find fulfillment. We’re so designed to DO things, it’s difficult to conceive of a existence without any conflict.
There is so, SO much we don’t know. But I know God is good, and He loves us. He just hasn’t provided us with all the answers.

It is by faith that we believe that the after life will be perfect as God says it is. Believe what Jesus says it will be. Our own minds will not be able to even go as far as to understand what will be and how it will be, but we know from the Word that it will just be.
I have far too many questions when I try to figure out what will be ahead of us and it leads to more questions than answers, but read the Word and just believe as best as you can and by all means keep faith with you as well.

There are so many of God`s creatures that are on the brink of extinction these days. They are suffering from pollution, loss of living space, unfounded hatred (wolves),overhunting, illegal poaching, illegal wild animal abduction trade, inhumane treatment in zoo`s,
puppy mills……
This will end when Jesus ends Satan`s rule of the earth
When these stories get me down,I look to the Lord and verses like you have shown today. I ask him to let me help take care of all his creatures in the new place he is making.
When I think about what is promised to us,it is so exciting…..it is going to be amazing.

The Bible very explicitly states what the new Earth and new Heaven looks like. The men in OT and NT who saw mere glimpses of the future, found it not only impermissible but impossible to adequately describe even that “tip of the iceberg” in human words. And so, the concrete details given in Scriptures are mostly symbolic images.
A natural mind that senses the physical only as reality will perceive it all as mystery. But God has revealed it to us through His Spirit. He commands us to “set our sights on the realities of heaven” (Colossians 3:1-2). We fix our gaze on eternal things that cannot be seen because that is what really matters. The invisible is a spiritual realm that is beyond the limits of our present awareness of time and space and energy. For, we know— after life is not just about the place but is the relationship we have with our Creator God.
The sneak preview of our destined abode has a pervading sense of God’s Holiness which actually alarmed and overwhelmed those who were granted such visions. Some of the cool things about the new creation includes: there is no sea, no sun or moon, no night, and no temple. The place is the very home of our heavenly father and will be totally free of sin, evil, curse, disease, sorrow, pain, and tears.
Our Heavenly country has well-laid foundations, precisely measured walls, streets that are built with all kinds of precious gems and radiant colors. The jeweled gates will never be shut and rooms are filled with treasures. There is the river of the water of Life, the tree of life, and trees yielding fruit all year long. There is no hunger or drought and our bodies will remain young forever. This blessed hope promises of a new order.
We will be given a new name and will bear His image to serve and reign with Him. I am eagerly looking forward to be a part of this beautiful prospect painted with God’s glorious presence, love, joy, and peace. Our relationship with Him and His children will not be hindered by barriers created by fear, pride, jealousy, and shame.
The citizens of New Jerusalem clothed with His righteousness, will be full of knowledge. We will rest forever in endless fellowship and worship of our great and awesome God. Remember, this entire splendor is symbolism that is heavily loaded with spiritual meaning. And it will take all of eternity for us to completely comprehend the breathtaking beauty of our future reality!
