Have you ever tried to convince a packrat to throw something away? If so, then you know just how difficult it is to get a person who hates to part with anything—even the most unnecessary items—to let stuff go.
Interior designer William Morris suggests, “Have nothing in your home you don’t know to be useful and believe to be beautiful.” Reducing clutter “isn’t a competition to see who has the fewest things,” writes the editor of Simple Living magazine. “It’s about living in a way that keeps your time, money, and energy available for the things that truly matter to you.”
In his letter to the Philippians, the apostle Paul discloses that he once had a hoarding problem. While he wasn’t necessarily filling his house with stuff, we find that Paul was obsessed with keeping the Jewish law. He amassed accolade after superfluous accolade for being a great Pharisee. His self-confidence and legalistic righteousness were overflowing! (3:3-6).
Paul didn’t see that what he was accumulating had no good use. “But now,” he said after a radical heart conversion, “I consider them worthless . . . when compared with the infinite value of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For His sake I have discarded everything else, counting it all as garbage, so that I could gain Christ and become one with Him. I no longer count on my own righteousness through obeying the law; rather, I become righteous through faith in Christ. For God’s way of making us right with Himself depends on faith” (vv.7-9).
There is a time for everything, our wise teacher King Solomon explains, and that includes: “A time to keep and a time to throw away” (Ecclesiastes 3:6).
What should you discard in order to know Christ better?

I think thats many things that hidden beneath our heart. From the very little things to the bigger things that we faced and experienced before. As a christian, we were always told to be firm and strong and hang on until the Lord save us.
I am sure each and everyone have something hidden beneath their mind, their past, their memory that formed in years that make us stop growing in Christianity and stop believing God. Discard them today and confess it to the Lord. He is there for you and ready to hear from you. Priceless and unconditional loves for such a sinner like us. He still shows great interest to His people, you and me while we are not deserve it.
Discard the grabage in you. Talk to Him today, He his waiting for you.

I have something that is clogging my way and i find it so hard to get rid … I cant understand why i keep doing the things i hate. The rate of me doing that thing i hate, is getting higher and higher. During the first quarter of this year, i managed to stay clear of it for many weeks and a month.
But it got worse and i keep getting into it in less than a week.
I really wanna be abstained from this sin …. well but, partially i gained some wisdom from failing. But it isnt a nice way to learn. Am i just making things hard for myself or is it naturally hard ??
Sometimes i get so fed up with myself. However, i will not give up … I desperately need help ! I keep asking God for forgiveness for the countless times i failed.. i feel so bad abt it.

driftsmoker… sometimes we are not meant to do things on our own strength. Sometimes it’s okay to ask for help… especially if your sin is a smoking habit. The addiction is beyond self-control. It is a rare situation that someone prays and gets rid of the addiction. You’ll only drive yourself further down & take a mental beating if you try to do it on your own. You are a child of the “KING” and He wants you to be whole.

Just an addition to your comment about the addiction of smoking. I had been trying to quit for 47 years and no amount of praying (I wasn’t a Christian at the time) seemed to help. Than three years ago I invited Jesus into my life and began to follow him in ernest. I am now smoke free and all the credit goes to the Lord. I believe, for me, the important part was that I was doing all I could to please God and he reacted to that by lifting an addiction that was too heavy for me alone.

To Driftsmoker
Just to ease ur mind with a little humor smoking wont keep u out of heaven it just might get u there sooner. Now it is hard to quit it is a will power thing so find a good reason to quit and u might want to find an accountability friend to help and pray together with you. I used to smoke 2 packs a day and I found a good reason to quit and it worked.

I LOVE that quote “keep your time, money & energy available for things that truly matter. I’m pasting a BIG copy of that all over. How guilty I am of wasting time on thoughts of things that can’t be changed… things of the past… thinking about my next strategy as soon as I get off my knees of asking God to take care of it… fussing over “things-to-do” that will not matter a whit tomorrow. Whew! If we could just live like this… think of the clutter we would remove.. and the peace that would follow. Amen and Amen… thank you for this… and thank you Lord for the message.

Lindagma, you spoke to my heart this moning. Thank you………..thinking about the next strategy as soon as we get off our knees……. fussing over things that will not matter tomorrow. That’s clutter I need to remove.

Lindagma,
thank you for your word. After thinking abt those words, i suddenly realize that i rely too much on my own capabilities … Most of the time after i ask God for something, i keep wondering what shall i do and think of some of my ways … But now i know that i shouldn’t dwell too much on that and just simply let God take over the doing by trusting in him fully …..
Thank you for lighting up this dark spot in me, which i never did realize ! :]

How awesome is our God! Last week I kept coming across the scripture in Hebrews 12:1 three times it showed up – on decorations in my home, in my Bible reading and in a devotional. Then God showed me Hebrews 11:6 “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” Then He brought it all together with this – Hebrew 12:2
” Let us fix our eyes on Jesus…. the author and perfecter of our faith…” Then as a gentle reminder here is the -run the race – verse again! Amazing!!
God has delivered me from my smoking habit and He has shown me that He is patient with us – I am 30 days smoke free and He has gently shown me the way. Driftsmoker – be patient with yourself and fix your eyes on Jesus.
I am also in the process of removing the physical clutter in my life – I can’t wait to see what God will do next!
