In Chinese culture, filial piety (Chinese: ?; pinyin: xiào) or a respect for parents and elderly is one of the virtues to be held above all else. But like many other virtues, it is fast being sacrificed at the altar of self-fulfillment and self-actualization.

Ephesians 6: 1-3 states: “Children, obey your parents because you belong to the Lord, for this is the right thing to do. “Honor your father and mother.” This is the first commandment with a promise: If you honor your father and mother, “things will go well for you, and you will have a long life on the earth.”

As Christians, our relationship with our parents is to be a reflection of our devotion to the Lord.
