Not very. I find it mostly slanted to viewpoints opposite mine. As far as watching events around the world and their correspondence with Christ’s return (if there is one), well, when you’re ready, you’re ready. Scripture says to keep your hand to the plow and keep facing forward. Looking about doesn’t do any good.
I tend to take the opposite view. We are called to be salt and light. God cares passionately about people besides me. So should I. For example, I see pictures, videos, twitter streams and mainline media reports about what is going on in Iran. I can’t physically get involved in that situation, but I can pray for God’s peace for the inhabitants of that place. If I live my live with my head in the sand I can’t possibly fulfill God’s call on my life.
