What encouraging words from a pastor, teacher, or mentor proved to be life-changing for you? Why?
IT WOULD BE MY MENTOR:
WHY:
When I went to AA I would meet my mentor there. Thou you shouldn’t really have a male/female relationship, this would prove to work out perfectly for me. When it came to do the 3rd step we would go to his church (as I didn’t have one yet). Before going in a couple of things happened. Being a smoker I wanted to have a cigarette before going in. I went to light it and a huge ball of fire came rolling out of the lighter and it surrounded my face, hair and my hand too. I threw the lighter, I was blinded for a few seconds and then it was gone. I did not have a single hair singed on me. I was shocked. My mentor saw this happen to me and he smiled. Just so you know this would happen to me three times and all three times there would be a witness(es) to this event. Before going into the church to do the 3rd step, I told my mentor that I would do this but I was going to be doing it with a lot of fear. Again he smiled at me. It would be during my 3rd step (I was on my knees) all the sudden I am in total darkness except for some holes in front of me that looked like I was in someone else’s body and looking out through their missing eyes. Then something was going on that sounded like a huge wind and whispers that were on the outside of the body I was in. It scared me because I knew whatever was out there is nothing I wanted to know about, so I felt safe where I was. Then as it had come it was gone. I jumped up but wasn’t sure what to say, I mean who would believe what just happened to me? My mentor did. He wouldn’t say why he did. I was puzzled. When asked who’s body I thought I was in, I came up with the wrong answer (believe it or not). But when I did come up with understanding what had actually happened to me, I was so happy that I fell on my knees and thanked God for his grace and mercy. And to simplify about the fires (which I thought was part of Satan and not knowing that God used fire too) I would come to learn about the 6 things I was built with and three where burnable and 3 were not. i had gone in scared and came out saved (spiritually). I will never forget it and it was incredible. I didn’t know the Word at that time, but as I learned it, more and more of that night made sense to me.
Thanks for sharing your story, mizroby. It always amazes me to see how God can give us new life, but also help us live healthier an holier lives by His work within us. Your life experience captures this reality so well. May God bless you as you continue to serve and seek Him!
