It never used to matter to me what I ate, but it has become very important to me to watch what I eat since I became aware of the Truth that my body is a temple of the Holy Spirit. I need to take care of my body, for my body is not my own; I was bought with a price, and my life, including my body’s, is the Lord’s, and I need to honour Him with how I take care of myself.
Now i feel even more engaged with my daily walk with my LORD JESUS….. my path feels more real when i really ask myself: how can i apply the scriptures to my life now and in living color… thanks daily journey for the open forum and the realism of application made evident… we must take the scriptures and make them real to our individual lives… especially when we are away from the “Chruch” building itself…. application is imperative after receiving the instructions from our study, worship and fellowship time with fellow believers….. Thanks again for the reality check…. the CHURCH is in our daily not just at the building itself….
It is important to me to watch what I eat for the following reasons:
1. I simply feel healthier when I eat natural (unprocessed) foods. I like feeling that way and enjoy more energy to play with my kids and spend time with my wife.
2. I want to be able to defend myself and my family if needed. If I am overweight, it’s harder to do so.
3. I want to look extremely sexy for my wife. Like stupid sexy.
4. I need to set a good example for my kids so they will eat healthy when they grow up.
5. Really my main reason is that it takes discipline to eat healthy and I want to live a disciplined life. I need too in order to study my Bible, pray, tithe, be balanced, and not allow footholds in my daily life. If I’m not intentional about what I am doing I easily fly of track and fall into sin.
justin, I liked your comment especially regarding discipline.A very important fact in our christian walk. I am over weight and have stopped smoking , drinking and using bad language. All these things required a lot of discipline While working on all these defects I lost tract of my weight. I now ,(with God’s help ) am working on my eating habits.Trying to remember that this body is the temple of the the Holy Ghost”
As a Chinese, I’m brought up with the understanding that different food contains different nutritional values. When I’m feeling “heaty”, I should avoid “heaty” food. And when recovering from a particular sickness, some food are a definite no-no. Though some of them are rooted in old-wives tales, there are element of truths in others. For example, the medicinal qualities in some plants which we used in our soup.
So, my upbringing does instill a level of consciousness in watching what I eat. When I became a Christian, the understanding that my body is the temple of the Holy Ghost further enhance it.
It is important to ‘watch what you eat’ because your body is directly impacted by what you put in your mouth….and your body is God’s gift to you, and it is the temple of the Holy Spirit!
Today a new thought came to me about watching what I eat. The Bible says that man must not live on bread alone but on every word that comes from the mouth of God. This makes me think that I must also be very careful to nourish myself spiritually on the Word of God, on Jesus, that He may remain in me and that I may remain in Him. For He tells us in John 6:47-58:
47 I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, he who believes in Me [who adheres to, trusts in, relies on, and has faith in Me] has (now possesses) eternal life.
48 I am the Bread of Life [that gives life–the Living Bread].
49 Your forefathers ate the manna in the wilderness, and [yet] they died.
50[But] this is the Bread that comes down from heaven, so that [any]one may eat of it and never die.
51 I [Myself] am this Living Bread that came down from heaven. If anyone eats of this Bread, he will live forever; and also the Bread that I shall give for the life of the world is My flesh (body).
52 Then the Jews angrily contended with one another, saying, How is He able to give us His flesh to eat?
53 And Jesus said to them, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, you cannot have any life in you unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and drink His blood [unless you appropriate His life and the saving merit of His blood].
54 He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood has (possesses now) eternal life, and I will raise him up [from the dead] on the last day.
55 For My flesh is true and genuine food, and My blood is true and genuine drink.
56 He who feeds on My flesh and drinks My blood dwells continually in Me, and I [in like manner dwell continually] in him.
57Just as the living Father sent Me and I live by (through, because of) the Father, even so whoever continues to feed on Me [whoever takes Me for his food and is nourished by Me] shall [in his turn] live through and because of Me.
58 This is the Bread that came down from heaven. It is not like the manna which our forefathers ate, and yet died; he who takes this Bread for his food shall live forever.[Amplified Bible]
Therefore, even more important than the physical food that I nourish my body with is the spiritual Food with which I nourish my soul. I cannot live without “feeding on Jesus” each and every day of my life. Truly, I must taste and see that the Lord is good and trust and take refuge in Him always [Psalm 34:8]!
