Move to a new home, or stay at the old address? This question filled my mind for several days as my husband and I discussed the possibilities. A handful of problems were obvious when we toured a prospective home. For instance, a pipe in the basement jutted up from the floor into the middle of a room. And there was an odd odor in the cellar. Still, there were new cupboards and beautiful windows that would let sunlight pour in.
I found myself more and more concerned with the details involved in the deal. What if we couldn’t sell our home? How much would it cost to fix up the new place? Paul’s words to the Philippians diffused my apprehension. He wrote, “Don’t worry about anything . . . . Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. Then you will experience God’s peace” (Philippians 4:6-7). For me, peace was the absence of the constant mental tinkering with our situation. It meant trusting that God would determine the outcome of our plans.
Paul went on to give his “top 8” list of good things to think about. Not surprisingly, none of them included buying and selling a home. Rather, the categories were: what is true, honorable, right, pure, lovely, admirable, excellent, and worthy of praise (Philippians 4:8). Purposely filling our minds with good things and mentally chewing on them leaves little room for fear and worry.
It’s normal to spend time considering the weighty things in our lives. A well-thought-out approach to our basic needs—shelter, food, and employment—is wise. But the Bible tells us we don’t have to worry about those necessities. Prayerfully trusting God and filling our minds with good things helps us to gain the right perspective as we make decisions.

Where’s the line between worrying and simply pondering a decision? How might the absence of worry in a person’s life be considered an act of surrender to God?

Jennifer, you come to rest on some of life’s most puzzling things. Some say, it matters little what car you buy, that’s not important, nor is the color. Yet, I have prayed to find small parts of little value and God came through. There is nothing too small, nothing to big that is beyond God’s eye and thought. Does He just want us to make a decision some times? Does He want us to wait? Could it be that are decision will have little impact in what He has planned? If the opportunity is there should we take it, “the open door” policy? If you can answer all of these questions correctly you get a gold star. I think a lot of the time it’s just talking with Father about what we purpose in our hearts. Always keeping God in the loop. Thanks Jennifer, happy home buying.

Talking to God about what we purpose in our hearts….EXACTLY! At least for me…. Goal is to never make a decision without leaving room for God to speak to my heart. A lot easier said than done, but practice gets you closer to His perfection.

Hi Gary,
What a great list of questions–I certainly can’t answer them. 🙂 It boggles my mind to think that God knows the outcome of every decision we make or consider. Searching the Bible for direction and asking God to use us in every situation helps us to rest in His sovereignty as we consider the course our lives will take.

So what happened? Did you move or stay put? How did the Lord reveal His will for you in this matter? If you don’t mind sharing.

Thank you Jennifer for another perfect timing. I haven’t been able to do anything since I got out of the hospital because I have been so wiped out. I thank God for healing me and everyone that prayed for me during that gruesome experience. The sepsis almost killed me, but God healed me. I was just complaining about the uncaring attitude of the medical center and wondering why I don’t matter to them, but that doesn’t seem to matter when I know that God cares, and I need to keep my mind on the things God wants me to think about like you said, and God heals me more every day, I am still learning that I was doing way too much and not being able to do anything now, God wants me just to rest in His word and stop to reflect all He has done for me. Nothing is hard when God is always there to help me and see me through.

Thank you much! I have missed all of you so much, and yes I have been reciting the 23 Psalm I also learned when I was younger!! What a blessing to be able to come back and see that my friends missed me and are still praying for me. It’s so good to be back here, I’ve been gone way too long.

Yes, you have! Glad to see you posting, my friend!

Thank you Kim, I’m just taking it one day at a time. Yesterday I did way too much! Too much too soon? I’ll be okay.
hsnpoor on July 17, 2016 at 8:39 am
And, you Ms GG, have been MIA too lately. I’ve missed you. Is all well?
gagirllive on July 17, 2016 at 7:44 pm
Lol…yes, all is well, Kim. There are some days when I just hang back and “listen”, but I’m still here, friend. Thanks
Gary Shultz on July 16, 2016 at 10:09 am
Hi Sandy, good to see you are back, although still regaining health. You and the Kim’r had some ups and downs. God still has purpose and stuff for you to do. He knows exactly how to get you there. Health to you.

Thank you Gary 🙂

sandy229 – it’s so good to see your voice again, and I have added you to my prayer list. You are a valued member of this community of saints and when your voice is absent, you are sorely missed. And I certainly feel the same way about Kim. When one forum member is missing, we are all at a loss, but when two or more are absent at the same time, we are left most wanting. May our Heavenly Father continue His generous healing process on both of you! Blessings to all.

Thank you so much!! I am so glad to finally be able to come back here to my family!!

Thank you, Jim! I told Sandy that she can’t have anymore adverse life events because I seem to be following in her footsteps and I’ve had enough, thank you
sandy229 on July 17, 2016 at 12:22 pm
LOL, these events do bring unexpected joy and blessings, you have to admit!! In fact, I seem to remember you telling me that. We both missed Beth Moore, but there was someone at my church who couldn’t afford to go, so it was so cool that I was able to give her my ticket and hopefully someone else got to go too, cuz I also had 2 tickets.

Wonderful! I offered mine free, but no one took me up on it. Think Ontario was bit off the beaten path….
