Q: What does it mean to have “life and more abundantly/abundant life”? Is this referring to eternal life or better life here and now—as we know it? Or both? I’m hoping it’s more than just a platitude as it is so often used. Thanks a bunch! —Kimberly
A: The expression, “have life more abundantly” isn’t just a platitude, even though we can sometimes hear and read it used that way. The words come from Jesus himself, quoted in John 10:10. Abundant life includes things superadded to our lives by God’s grace—peace, fulfillment, joy, and more—and is experienced both in this world and the next.
Those who choose not to love and believe in Jesus have life, but they do not have abundant life. —Dan Vander Lugt
