Recently, I stumbled upon the Twitter page of a Korean actress that I like. So, I decided to drop her a note to tell her how much her recent drama had inspired me.
Since then, I’ve waited with bated breath to see if she will reply to my message. I know it’s unlikely, because such a popular star receives hundreds of notes a day. What’s more, I’m simply a fan. She doesn’t know me. Still, I hope she’ll drop me a note.
In Psalm 91:15, we read of a God who does respond to us. Check out these words: “When they call on Me, I will answer.” Wow! That’s a wonderful promise.
Who is this God who will answer us? The psalmist tells us that He is the “Most High,” the “Almighty” (Psalm 91:1). Both terms stress His position and limitless power. And in verse 2, we read that He is Yahweh (Hebrew), the great “I Am” who is our Lord.
Psalm 91 calls for us to take shelter in the Lord. It assures us that God will protect us from danger (Psalm 91:1-13). In verses 3 and 4, it features the metaphors of a mother bird and of metal armor as it details the fullness of His power and presence.
Commenting on these verses, a Bible teacher once wrote, “The mother bird safely tucks her young under her wings. There they are secure. There is a very tender touch here, stressing the warmth of God’s love and concern. Not only is there a tenderness in God’s care, there is also a toughness, as is seen in the imagery of the metal armor.”
God Himself promises to keep in safety those who love Him (Psalm 91:14-16). He does reply and watch over us!
